To get folks in the holiday spirit, members of the Sun City Center Art Club will open an art exhibition, "Red and White All Over," Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at their newly renovated art gallery. In the spirit of giving, they are also hoping visitors will donate blood during the event.

Eunice Agnello, director of the Art Gallery at Sun City Center, said she is accepting a limited number of pieces for the show.

"It's running through Christmas time so we wanted a note of Christmas coming," she said. "It's paintings that have red and white predominantly in them. It opens up to a wide variety of paintings."

She said the artwork may be in acrylic, oil or any kind of medium. She is finding many artists like to create collages.

Originally from Southbury, Conn., Agnello said she plans to enter a couple of her own modern paintings. She has been an artist for the past 55 years.

Agnello said she is compiling a book of biographies of artists who show in the gallery.

"There are a lot of artists who are well-known who come down here and are doing work," she said, adding the book is kept in the gallery. "It would be a shame to waste the talent we have here. The gallery gives people a chance to show their work and be seen."

She said artists have chosen different themes to create interest and let the public know they are not just traditional painters. Some paintings on display will be for sale.

The "Red and White" reception will take place in the gallery, which is adjacent to the Art Room. She said the show will also feature works by the Potter's Wheel Club.

"They are very excited about the new gallery and they should be," she said. "They did it to the ninth. It's just beautiful, the lighting and everything. We are trying to upscale everything."

Don Nathan, president of SCC Art Club, said members of the club unveiled the renovated gallery earlier this year. The gallery is open to visitors Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m.

"We are very happy with the way the gallery is performing," Nathan said. "It's a way to bring art to the community.

He said as part of the exhibit, visitors will have the opportunity to donate blood at the blood mobile.

"We felt that would be a good way to give back," Nathan said.

He said the show will run through Jan. 6. Admission is free

To be included in the show, call Eunice Agnello, gallery director, at (813) 634-6003.
