An August Odyssey Features Cool Cruising

Published: March 25, 2009

These warm days of March, enjoyable though they may be, remind us that warmer days are ahead, and one group of Freedom Plaza residents is already making plans for an August escape. Instead of sweltering, they will be savoring the sea breeze, looking for air-conditioned spaces, looking at a scenic shoreline, all while cruising along the New England coast aboard Holland America's Maasdam.

The trip is one suggested by residents and will be sponsored by the Freedom Plaza Scholarship Fund board of directors as one of their annual fundraisers. Other such events include the forthcoming Freedom Frolics and Oktoberfest 2009.

As usual, the sponsors have gone to great lengths to make the excursion an exceptional one. It will be preceded by a "Bon Voyage" party so that participants may become better acquainted and it will be accompanied, door-to-door, by a Freedom Plaza staff member who is an experienced travel escort. Freedom Plaza will furnish transportation to- and from- Tampa International Airport for the land leg of the trip, a nonstop, round-trip flight to the port of Boston.

The Maasdam's itinerary includes such fascinating ports of call as: Halifax, Nova Scotia, with its Citadel and fabled, Peggy's Cove; Saint John, New Brunswick, and the Bay of Fundy 's astonishing "reversing falls," Sydney, Nova Scotia, where life in the 1700's is re-created at the imposing Fort of Louisbourg; Bar Harbor, Maine, gate- way to the natural beauty of Acadia National Park.

Upon returning to the part of Boston the Maasdam will dock and begin offloading in early morning, but instead of spending the day at Boston's airport, waiting for the flight home, the Freedom Plaza group will be touring the historic city and its interesting environs by private motor coach. Among other sites, they will visit are Lexington Green, Boston Harbor and the Old North Church, then lunch.
Freedom Plaza excursions always welcome non-resident guests on a space-available basis, as does this one. For more information, call (813) 642-1213 or drop by Freedom Plaza for a trip brochure.
