South Bay Hospital has installed a new surgical tracking system that helps visitors check on the status of friends and family during a surgical procedure. The system is continually updated, allowing visitors to know a change in status faster than in the past.
New, large-screen monitors have been installed in the main lobby and surgical waiting rooms. The screens identify patients with a "code" and the surgeon's name, giving privacy to the patient, while still keeping friends and family up to date. The screen also displays the time of the most recent status change and what the new status is, such as "In Pre-Op," "In Operating Room," or "In Post Recovery."
"In the past, a visitor would have to wait for a physician or nurse to find them and update them about the status of their loved one," said Sharon Roush, CEO of South Bay Hospital. "With the Surgical Tracking System, visitors receive more updates and in a more timely manner."
