Members of the Sun City Center Community Association Board of Directors are urging Hillsborough County commissioners to maintain the County's Consumer Protection Agency, which is at risk for being cut as the county reviews its possible cost-cutting measures.
"Older people are sitting targets for criminal scams," said Community Association president Ed Barnes. "In the past six months alone, the CPA has handled almost 30 complaints from our citizens and everything we know tells us this type of economy is the perfect breeding ground for attacks on our residents."
"The Hillsborough County Consumer Protection Agency is our first line of defense - and often our last line of defense as well," he said.
The SCC Community Association presented a resolution to the BOCC at its July budget meeting asking the Consumer Protection Agency not be cut.
