Eager to usher in the holiday season, Sun City Center residents bought up all the tickets for the fourth annual Knights of Columbus holiday dinner dance the first day they went on sale.
Tom Eicher, the publicity chair for the event, said the holiday extravaganza is set for Dec. 7 at Club Renaissance in SCC.
"I got my ticket that first day just in the nick of time," said Eicher, who moved to SCC from Long Boat Key two years ago.
He said more than 200 people will attend the event in the Bacchus Room of Club Renaissance.
Marc Chamberlin of Marc's Music will entertain guests as he did last year.
Chamberlin of Sun City Center plays the guitar and banjo as well as sings.
"I usually play some holiday songs and then some dance music. They like to dance," Chamberlin said.
He has been a member of the Knights of Columbus for a year. Originally from the Harford, Conn., area, he moved to Sun City Center with his wife, Mary, three years ago.
Why was it sold out the first day?
"Because of me of course," said Chamberlin, joking. "Christmas is just once a year. It's a special event the members like to go to."
A fraternal organization, the Knights raises money for charities including The Mary and Martha House, a shelter for women and children in crisis in Ruskin. They had a successful golf fundraiser earlier this year.
The event includes a cocktail hour, sit-down dinner, dancing and raffle. The group has not decided which organizations will receive the money raised from the holiday dance.
Chamberlin also performed at the Knights' Columbus Day dance in October, adding they also had a good turn out.
