Women 'Wig Out' Over Boutique

Most businesswomen don't see their customers cry when they visit their shop. LuAnn Lane, the owner of Peggy's Pearl Ladies' Boutique and Wig Studio said it's not unusual for women to become emotional when they find a new look at her shop in the Sun City Center Plaza.

Women who have undergone chemotherapy or experience hair thinning as a side effect to medication, shop for wigs as well as women who just want a "grab and go" stylish look.

"We fix them up and make them gorgeous," Lane said. "We make a huge difference in their spirit. One lady cried in the shop because her hair was so thin. We fixed her up and she had tears rolling down."

Lane operated the shop for about a year-and-a-half before closing September, 2007. She recently reopened in Suite B of the center at 1647 Sun City Center Plaza. She is only open Mondays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sue Paton and Diane Lawrence of Sun City Center shopped at the boutique during their grand opening Oct. 20.

"I love the jewelry and purses and unusual tops," said Lawrence, eying a purse. "Where else can you get a pink bone purse?"

Paton, who sipped on champagne punch at the shop, bought a pair of capris at the shop last year.

Lane also owns a boutique in Bradenton. She brings more than 20 wigs from her collection to the Sun City Center shop. Lane plans to invite a wig consultant to her shop to help trim and shape women's existing wigs.

"We have the latest styles such as bobs and a lot of fun, funky styles," she said, adding she tries to avoid the old-fashioned matronly look.

Karen Messina of Sun City Center, one of Lane's personal friends, said she likes to wear wigs just for fun when she is not in the mood to style her hair. "

Lane carries a variety of shoes, purses, jewelry, and accessories in addition to wigs and hair pieces.
